A local campaign in Buxton is challenging plans to sell off land in Hogshaw. Much of this land was the local tip and has been abandoned for some years, during which it has rewilded. It is now a wonderful habitat and provides a green space for residents of Hogshaw and Fairfield. Nature writer and Buxtonian, Mark Cocker and Caroline Lucas MP are among those who have written to the High Peak Borough Council asking them to reconsider the sale of the Hogshaw site. You can respond to the consultation here https://www.highpeak.gov.uk/LandHogshaw
Hogshaw is an example of the problems of the brownfield/green field categories in planning decisions. There are many problems with current planning policy, few of which are addressed by the current white paper on planning and the issue of biodiversity is one of them.
