Greens win in Hope Valley!

If you were following the local elections, you probably already know by now, but we are delighted to say that Greens across the High Peak have been celebrating gaining our first ever seats on the High Peak Borough Council!

We took both seats in the Hope Valley ward, where Joanna Collins and Charlotte Farrell are the new Borough Councillors.

Reacting to this success, Councillor Charlotte Farrell said:

“Joanna and I are delighted with this result. I want to give our thanks to the members of High Peak Green Party who have worked tirelessly for this victory. Thanks also to the people of Hope Valley who have supported and encouraged us in this campaign. Our aim is to work for all people in the valley, to tackle the issues that we have heard about on the doorstep, to work now for a better future for all.”

The Greens took 15% of the total vote in High Peak. Elsewhere in Derbyshire they won their first seat in Amber Valley and took two seats in Derbyshire Dales. Across the whole country they gained a huge 194 seats.

Councillor Joanna Collins said that the results in High Peak show that people really care about green issues:

“People know well that their future is now at risk because of climate change and environmental destruction. These issues have been ignored for far too long. The chaos at Westminster has put people off the main parties. But this result isn’t just a protest. There is also a positive message in the Green vote. That message is ‘take climate change and the environment seriously and do something.’ It is our intention to do whatever we can at the local level to address the climate crisis.”
